(More customer reviews)I did a lot of research locating and finally deciding to buy this particular messenger bag. I was looking for something not too large (including depth), and something masculine looking. I read the many favorable reviews for this bag's horizontal counterpart, and decided to buy it based largely on the reviews and the quality of the bag as mentioned in the reviews. I thought the vertical orientation would be less obtrusive and less metrosexual looking; I'm just a guy. As a color, I didn't want olive green. The "stone" color looked good, but my wife suggested getting the charcoal, as it would not show dirt, etc., so easily. The color is good; it has a stone washed, slightly worn/broken in appearance to the fabric. Since the enclosed product information cautioned that the color may rub off, I washed it before using; there was no change in the appearance - it really looks good.
I wanted something to carry around on my vacations. As a tourist, I find myself picking up free magazine type literature, pamphlets, brochures, etc., all sorts of things that 'pack rat' guys like me pick up along the way, and just didn't want to carry these around in my hands. Besides, wives really don't want to haul this stuff around in their purses either. I also wanted something to carry any small item purchases. It fulfilled my needs as expected. It has lots and lots of pockets, both large and small. I didn't intend to carry notebooks in it, but wanted to see what a couple of reviewers of the horizontal version were griping about, it being too small. I could fit two (2) 11.5" x 11" x 2.25" notebooks in it and still had room in the main compartment as well as had all of the smaller pockets yet available for use; no problem. I think that if someone needed more room than this, then they would be better off with a backpack; more room and more ergonomically suitable. It is very well made and sturdy, with thick fabric and good stitching, and has a very adjustable strap.
The only fault I have with it is that I intended to buy something not quite as large (hence, only four stars). Based on the measurements provided in the product description ("Dimensions: 10"h x 12"w x 3.5"d") I thought that this would really be great. The acutal bag is somewhat larger than this (measuring from seam-to-seam): 15"h x 12"w x 3.5"d. There's not a whole lot of difference here (well, the five inches vertically is a lot...), but that extra length bothers me somewhat. (I can understand how the short person previous reviewer of this bag would feel that it would be too long; it is long.) However, anyone who uses this for notebooks, books, large writing/drawing pads, etc., would likely appreciate the extra length. Overall it is a good bag, and I will keep it and continue to use it.

Amaro 61007 Small Century Messenger Bag - Black Review

(More customer reviews)This is a decent messenger/day trip bag. It has a zipper at the top of the flap, making the flap a pocket and the same on the back of the bag. These are full sized and the only two zippered pockets accessible from the outside. as well there is a zippered "pouch" pocket under the flap on the front of the main compartment. This is where there are small organizer slots for small items (credit cards) and 3 or so pens. No clip for holding keys. The main compartment is zippered across the top and has another zippered "slot" on the inside back of the main compartment. It runs the whole width of the bag and most of the height of the inside. I will keep a small internet tablet (7" screen) in it but it isn't appropriate for even a netbook, I don't think. The zipper closing the main compartment requires both hands to open and close (minor issue). On the outside ends are a couple of pockets. One is canvas with a Velcro closure cover and the other is a small "stretch net" suitable for a small umbrella or a very small water bottle. The shoulder strap is wide and adjustable but doesn't swivel...it is sewn into the bag at end. The main flap cover is held closed by one plastic snap buckle....which is ok but I hope the flap lays flat during it's life. There is no handle across the top for easy grabbing, I'm going to add a simple one by having my seamstress sew a 1 inch wide handle of the same material the strap is made of. It will be attached at the top of the back panel as not to put pressure on the flap and provide better balance. There's about a 1 inch area that doesn't affect any of the pockets where it can be attached. I've missed having a handle. I'll also have a key clip added somewhere on the inside of the "pouch" pocket where the organizer is located.
All-in-all it is a decent bag which will hold enough stuff. I was able to comfortably get my mother's 11.6" screen (with extended battery) netbook into the main compartment (not in the inside back zippered slot) and there was plenty of room for computer accessories and a couple of small books. No padding. I really think that a price of $16.99 +/- is fair but anything much more is overpriced, in my opinion.

As for the main compartment, it is so hard to open it as you need to peel off really thick velcro, unsnap a bulky plastic closure, and open two zippers. So impractical.

(More customer reviews)This is a great bag, and it's exactly what I expected it to be. I bought it for a 15" Macbook Pro, which fits comfortably. The bag provides enough protection to give me peace of mind while transporting my MBP, along with an assortment of ample storage pockets. I can fit the charger, a notebook, pens, blackberry, and a few software titles just fine. The great thing about the bag though, is that if you don't need all that storage space, the bag still looks relatively slim and compact. I'll chalk that up to intelligent design.
If my MBP was ever going to be off my person (say in an overhead bin on an airplane, or something) then I would definitely want more protection. But if you are just taking it to work or school, this bag is perfectly sufficient.
The construction of this bag is very solid, and while I've only had it for about 5 weeks now, I expect it to hold up for a long time. I had a similar JanSport laptop bag before this, and it prompted me to stick with a name I trust.
As far as aesthetics, I really like the look of the bag. It's not too casual and not too serious, just the right balance. I got the Sumo Green color, and it's an exact match to the product pictures. So, it's a shade of brown, despite the name. I was worried it would show up in a puke green color.
Overall, I am very happy. Great bag, ample storage, rugged design, attractive look, and the price is actually pretty good for the bag, in my opinion.

District Threads Canvas Field Bag Review

(More customer reviews)It's a pretty nice bag for a couple books and odds. The side pockets don't have much give to them so if you put large objects in they bulge quite a bit, which makes them essentially useless. So you basically have one main compartment.
Unfortunately it's a bit small bordering on purse-ish. I'm a grad-student in the sciences and I like to work with a clipboard, if it was slightly larger so I could fit my clipboard in it would be about perfect. This was my fault for not checking the size, though. District Threads offers a field-bag that would have fit my clipboard. If you work on smaller items like moleskines then this bag will be an okay size for you. I didn't take off any stars for the size issue, just be aware.
I should note this is not a real canvas bag, it's pretty flimsy cotton and I expect it will wear through pretty fast if you subject it to much. Which kind of defeats the purpose of a canvas bag.

Timbuk2 Bifold Wallet Review

(More customer reviews)I already owned a nice Mont Blanc leather wallet but decided I wanted a new, fun wallet to use. For classier duties, I could always go back to the black leather wallet. The Timbuk2 bifold caught my eye because I'm a big fan of their messenger bags and laptop cases. For the most part, the Timbuk2 Bifold Wallet met my expectations and needs, for about 2 months.
First, I found the dimensions to be appropriate (W-4.13 x H-3.74 x D-0.39). It's a little shorter, but wider than my leather wallet. The Timbuk2's dimensions made more sense to me since most back pockets are typically wide and sometimes short. It fit in my Lucky Brand jeans just fine. The ballistic nylon material feels sturdy enough to take some abuse. "Super-durable ballistic nylon and a slim design so you won't look like you've got a giant a**."
Unfortunately, there are only 4 card slots, which is surprising given that it's actually wider than my leather wallet which has 6 card slots AND 2 side slots. One of the card slots is an ID slot for your driver's license or school ID. I was at least able to put 2 cards in each slot. Also, the slots are deep so you won't be able to eyeball what's in them like you can with some wallets where you can see the top edge to identify them. The main billfold has a divider so you can separate your bills or keep receipts on one side and bills on the other.
The last design note worth mentioning is the stretchy band. At first I really didn't think I would use it or want to. But the wallet won't completely shut, even empty, unless you strap it with the band. This may be cumbersome to some people, but it didn't bother me. It is probably the least durable part of the wallet though, so it may fray or wear over time. If so, Timbuk2 will more than likely take care of it as they stand behind their products for life. Also, though Timbuk2 makes many of their bags on 16th & Alabama in San Francisco, the wallet probably is not.
If you want a fun, durable, no-frills, nylon wallet, the Timbuk2 is sure to meet your needs. "So stuff your cash and go sit on you're a**...!"
**03/19/2010 UPDATE**
I was right about the elastic band being the least durable part of the wallet. In just a couple of months, the band stopped being so stretchy and it won't keep the wallet snugly shut. In fact, it is so loose that whenever I put the wallet in my back pocket, the band slips right off the wallet. I contacted Timbuk2 Customer Service and they were fantastic in helping me. Though this one particular product failed, I knew all along that Timbuk2 was a solid company that took care of their customers.

Cons: The lether is so distressed that it is rather rough. It is so rough, that after wearing the bag for about 30 minutes, the hip of my dress pants began to shred. I am going to search for a leather worker to see if they can smooth it down because I can't afford for it to ruin more pants. Additionally, there are no zipper pockets in this bag except for the main space. The pocket on the back is completely open and can only hold thin items. The pocket on the front uses the actual buckle to close (not a secret snap or magnet) so it is a bit of a pain to have to feed the strap back through the loop just to put back a small item. The pocket inside the main compartment is completely open (no zipper either) so when one drops one's keys or cell phone inside it can land in the small pocket or in the main compartment - this makes it rather difficult to find the item again when needed.

I can wear it with out anything else in the cold MN winter, in single digits, and be comfortable. All that is exposed is your eyes, and if you wear some glasses you are totally protected from the elements. Looks like a ninja mask on.

Well not this bag! This backpack is small, sexy, feminine, and performs well. It's pricey, I know. But its worth it. I am impressed with the attention to detail and I get a lot of complements on this bag. It's unusual shape and good looks will make you stand out from the crowd. In short, I love this bag. It fits my 15 inch macbook pro well. (The computer pocket is padded.) I also carry some notebooks in the main compartment. And there's some special pockets for my wallet and cell phone in the main compartment too. Those pockets are nice b/c I always know exactly where my stuff is and I don't have to go fishing for it when my phone is ringing. The little compartment is roomy so I carry my charger, pencil case, glasses, keys, ipod, etc. Well, in short- I love my bag and I highly recommend it!

Bellino The Reporter Leather Vertical Case Review
