SwissGear Computer Messenger Bag (Black) Review

SwissGear Computer Messenger Bag (Black)

This bag is wonderful for those who need to carry a lot of things with their laptop. You can tell this has Swiss Army DNA. A security strap holds the computer securely inside and a large pocket holds power cords or accessories. An outside pocket has spots for drives, disks or other needs.
Good to carry things, but not so bulky that you can't carry it.

Sumdex Notebrief Brief for Notebooks up to 15.4 Inches (Black) Review

Sumdex Notebrief Brief for Notebooks up to 15.4 Inches (Black)
Average Reviews:

On my way out the door for the first time with this bag, my $800 Gateway went crashing to the ground, doing some minor damage to it (one of the battery locks popped out and I cannot get it back in). How did this happen? Did I somehow clip the shoulder strap incorrectly? After picking up my case and laptop off the ground I quickly discovered that the lousy Made-in-China, pot metal clip failed right at the pivot point. I did nothing out of the ordinary that would constitute extreme or otherwise abusive behavior. I simply slung it over my shoulder and down it went. Whatever weight rating this was designed for is obviously not suitable for the weight of a 15" laptop and its charging pack. Stay away unless you are comfortable toting it around by the carrying handle only.

SOLO Classic Collection Leather Laptop Portfolio, Holds Notebook Computer up to 16 Inches, Black, N739-4 Review

SOLO Classic Collection Leather Laptop Portfolio, Holds Notebook Computer up to 16 Inches, Black, N739-4
Average Reviews:

I purchased this portfolio to hold my laptop secure and it does do the job. Made of leather, it is easy to carry and looks sharp. It comes with a shoulder strap wide enough for comfort and it is adjustable. Plenty of room for files and other stuff, and I can carry at least one textbook in the pouch. The computer section has room for the laptop, and any accessories,i.e. the power cord etc. There are nice little containers for small stuff also. Zippers are heavy-duty and well made. All in all, a very nice portfolio. I would recommend it for any traveler.

This sleeve is WONDERFUL. I actually didn't get it to use for an IPad, but rather to store all of my dry-erase markers and eraser for teaching. It matches my other laptop cases that I got. A fun way to store bulky items, and goes great with other Built products. I'm very pleased.

Case Logic CLCS-116 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (Black) Review

Case Logic CLCS-116 16-Inch Full-Size Security Friendly Laptop Case (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
When TSA announced guidelines for laptop cases that allowed passengers to pass through the security checkpoint without unloading their laptops - let's face it, we all rejoiced. The most common result of those guidelines has been the neoprene laptop sleeve, which still doesn't act as a carry-on, but rather a "skin" for your laptop to keep it from bumping around and getting jostled too much. So in that scenario, you'd probably still have a carry-on bag in addition to your laptop sleeve. If you don't... well then you probably don't need to be looking at a laptop bag anyhow.
Unfortunately this is "Generation #1" of these security laptop bags, so there are still quite a few things getting kinked out. Not to mention the cost factor of having the newest, shiniest thing on the market. This Case Logic CLCS-116 MSRPs for $100 - is it worth it compared to a $40 bag where you have to take out your laptop and put it into a plastic bin?
Pros:
- Non-laptop half of the bag has lots of good segmented and non-segmented compartments. Good for holding gadgets like Blackberries, phones, MP3 players, power cords, pens, books, etc...
- Small semi-hidden "wallet" hole for hiding cash.
- Nylon close and rough woven mesh for handling the day-to-day stresses of lugging around a bag.
- Zipper sliders are metal, not plastic (a big plus in my book). Zipper teeth are mostly plastic with the exception of the front zipper which is metal. All zippers on my bag pulled nice and smooth.
- Holds my 15.4" laptop like a champ - lots of padding, plenty of room.
- Put my Inspiron 1720 17" laptop in, just to see if it'd fit. "Kind of" would be a good description - the laptop fit, but only because I removed the battery (Dell laptops have gone to a configuration where the battery hangs off the back end). The 17" laptop is pushing at the seams of the compartment, so not a whole lot of padding left at the sides. Not bad for a bag that advertises itself as a 16" laptop bag.
Cons:
- No headphones hole - thought that was odd for Case Logic.
- Very little padding in non-laptop half of the case - careful with your gadgets!
- None of the compartments allows you to open 180 degrees (other than the security zipper, of course); most of the zippers only run halfway down allowing "fish mouth" access.
- Sort of heavy - at 4lbs, the weight will add up quick on your shoulders. It's not as massive as some of the other laptop bags made of all leather and the like, but it's not a featherweight either.
- No laptop strap to secure laptop. So if you're putting a netbook or even a 15.4" notebook in that half of the case, there's no way to hold it in place.
- No expansion options - this is not a zip-to-expand type bag, so if you generally take a lot of things in your carry-on, this may not be the right choice for you. The non-laptop portion of the bag is made for mostly flat items - books, paper, folders, etc.
Conclusion:
All in all this isn't a bad stab at the quickly growing "Security friendly laptop bag" market. If you travel to and from the various airports as part of your life, then having something like this might well justify its cost. However if you're just looking for a laptop bag on the off chance you might take a flight to see relatives every six months or so, then you're better off buying a cheaper (probably more functional) laptop bag, and just grabbing a neoprene slip cover for your laptop when you finally do go to the airport. For the "Security Friendly" side of the house, I'd really like to see this bag get a little lighter (better materials) and a little more functional (fully opening compartments).

It is very well made case. Purchased it for Sony Vaio 15.4" LT but it didnt fit, but most 15.4" should since Vaio's are wider. It has great padding and plenty of pockets for magazines, books, papers and all the needed accesories such as power adapter, mouse & cables and whole lot more. Its very stylish looking and compact yet expandable!

The semi-rigid insert gives additional protection to this sleeve. It fits my Dell mini 10.1 with a little bit of extra room. I put the charger into the second section behind the insert. I don't like the bulge it creates but it does keep everything in the same sleeve.
The style is subdued - it has a nice shape created by the insert, fresh blue color inside, and inconspicuous black on the outside. It's like the type of business suit I like, professional and standard on the first look, but a bit different when you look closely, just enough hint that the inside might be more than what first meet the eyes.

Samsonite 10386 Business Casual Sport Backpack (Black/Gray) Review

Samsonite 10386 Business Casual Sport Backpack (Black/Gray)
Average Reviews:

So, being a geek isn't easy. Seriously. I need to carry around a Zd8000 17 inch notebook, its massive power brick, a bluetooth mouse, a cd case, notebooks, mp3 player, psp, DS, computer game controller, etc. Oh yeah, and textbooks. This backpack fits it ALL. It's really quite impressive. And it also withstands the unpredictability of bay area weather.
It's no wonder that so many computer companies (Dell, HP) sell some variation of this model rebranded with their logo.
Be forewarned that this is a big backpack. The profile is just as big whether it's empty or full.
You can't tell from the image but this backpack is also ridiculously well-padded, which is very nice.
If you aren't sure, go to your local computer store and try it on...I know Fry's has it. You won't be disappointed.

Built NY 12" Laptop Sleeve - Stripe Review

Built NY 12 Laptop Sleeve - Stripe
Average Reviews:

My laptop is Thinkpad X200 (12'') with a 9-cell battery (the biggest one). It turned out that the stretchable sides perfectly fit my laptop, although it might feel a little bit tight to someone else - there is literally no extra room in it and it takes some effort to pull my laptop out. But if you have a X200 with normal size battery, this sleeve will be just right. Also, I LOVE the stripe design!

Brenthaven 2330101 15.4-Inch ProLite II Shoulder Case for Notebooks Review

Brenthaven 2330101 15.4-Inch ProLite II Shoulder Case for Notebooks
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been racking my brains over which computer bag would be the best for me. I travel, make presentations, have an expensive new computer as well as the associated gadgetry. Among the bags I seriously considered are Booq- one of the most pricey but definitely the MOST stylish & well built, Brenthaven, of which all the reviews I've read are excellent, BBP- a smaller company with some compelling products, as well as many others. In the end I chose Brenthaven.
Pros: It's well designed, well crafted- though I would have made all the zippers the same, as 2 are not the tough type. It's VERY well padded, and professional in appearance. Has a pocket dedicated to separated documents- a nice touch. There's a pass through for rolling bags so it can sit on top of the bag, leaving the other hand free. It has a padded iPod pocket built in. One of the most important things is that it comes with a lifetime guarantee. To me, this means that the company males a lifelong commitment to every buyer and that's priceless.
Cons: Looks like a computer briefcase. VERY average looking, though some might find that a plus...The vast majority of their products are black bullestic nylon. No pass through grommet for iPod headphones, so you can't listen to your music as you carry it around. It is comfortable to either carry by hand or wear on the shoulder.
I believe in the product; not from reviews and/or testimonials, but from owning many bags, and seeing where this bag improves performance, where others simply didn't.
Prologue: Suffice it to say that each of our needs are individual, personal. This is a solid bag for my needs.

Flightable® V1600E Wheeled Laptop Luggage Bag with Integrated Folding Table Review

Flightable® V1600E Wheeled Laptop Luggage Bag with Integrated Folding Table
Average Reviews:

I love this bag, EXCEPT that the one I received was not the same as the one pictured.. I currently own a flightable case with a roomy pocket in the front for my laptop and files. I was looking to repalce it with a newer one, since I have cracked the table, and lost some of the very hard to find replacement sized screws over the years, making it wobbly. The one I rec'd had a much smaller pocket and it was not entirely separate, opening onto the inside of the case. if this doesn't matter, then the bag works great otherwised. Easy to roll, and the table comes in handy nearly every day on my job.

Case Logic PLS-9 Ultraportable Netbook Sleeve for 7-Inch to 10-Inch Netbooks (Black) Review

Case Logic PLS-9 Ultraportable Netbook Sleeve for 7-Inch to 10-Inch Netbooks (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's not perfect, but it's a very nice protector for a netbook. The Case Logic website has a list of every netbook model that fits inside this sleeve.
I have an Aspire One with the 6 cell battery (there's a wart on the back of the computer where the battery sticks out), and the fit is virtually perfect for this sleeve. Nothing else fits in the main compartment. The padding is very nice, just about right, not too much, not too little. It feels very good in your hand.
There is an ingeneous zippered pocket on the front of this sleeve. There is a slot for devices USB - mostly a USB flash drive, but also some shorter USB wires would fit in here. The Acer A/C adapter fits in the outer pouch, but you end up with a very lumpy sleeve (a pretty big bulge where you slid the adapter.
Of course this has the nasty old vinyl / neoprene odor that goes away after a few days. You'll want to turn this inside out and air it out in a sunny location.
As a sleeve - and it's important you know this is a sleeve, not a PC case - this is a very nice protector. You can very easily toss this in a larger PC bag, or carry on luggage, and have no fear that your computer will get scratched or damaged. It will not hold papers, hard drives, cell phone, etc. Just the computer and a USB key.
My sample is black. The charcoal color with gray accents is very nice looking.
March 6, 2011 update - iPads fit in this sleeve. I've carried my iPad for the past year inside this sleeve. With no cover on the iPad, the device is pretty loose inside. I used a DodoCase and then an InCase book style cover for a while, and they both fit inside this sleeve nice and snug. I'm now using an Amazon Basics silicone case that only covers the back of the iPad. The silicone hangs up on the sleeve material, so it's a bit harder to slide the iPad in and out. But then again, the iPad doesn't shift around inside the sleeve. This combination has been on forty or fifty flights in carry on with me over the past year - not a bit of damage or problem with the iPad. When I pull the iPad out, this sleeve crumples up in the book pocket of the plane seat. Pretty darn nice.

Built E-LS10-MDT Sleeve for 10-Inch Laptops (Micro Dot)
Average Reviews:

The design is very cute and it seems like it will do a good job protecting my netbook from everyday bouncing around in my school bag. However, it only JUST fits the Asus EEE PC 1005HA. It is a VERY tight fit and I am scared the zippers will scratch the side of the netbook. Technically, this is a 10.1 inch netbook, which may explain why it doesn't fit in this sleeve designed for 7-10 inch netbooks. If there was an extra 1/2 inch of space, I would be more satisfied. So if you have a 10.1 inch netbook, you should look elsewhere for a better fitting sleeve.

I am a huge B&R fan and own several of their bags. I was very excited about this one because in the picture it looked like a small back pack. When I received it I was surprised to find the strap in the picture is actually a long shoulder strap making it very much a "man purse"....not exactly what I wanted so I am returning it.
