Brenthaven 2174101 Eclipse Sleeve II for 15.4" Notebooks (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)I was looking for a slim notebook case for either carrying the notebook alone, or for slipping it into a suitcase for travel. By slim, I mean minimal bulk and weight for traveling light. This one works well for me. It fits my Dell Inspiron 1420 just right, not tight. It is well padded on all sides, better than most sleeves I've seen. It has a nice, streamlined look. The open pouch on one side could, in a pinch, be used to carry a few small accessories (power supply and mouse, for example), but don't mistake this for a full size carry-case; if I had needed more space, I would have chosen the Brenthaven Prolite II.

But, there aren't many products that employ the definition of "simplicity" without compromising on things like safety, function, and an aesthetically pleasing design.
This one, however, has it all. No compromises. I couldn't be happier with my choice, and recommend it to everyone I meet. Actually, I rarely have to recommend it - the sleeve speaks for itself.

Brenthaven Edge II Jet Black (2292101) Review

(More customer reviews)This is the third case I've bought in this line. The first two were the Edge I for 13" Macs, the second case was only purchased after the cat made a rather poor choice of what might be his litter box... twice (i.e. the first case was not lost due to normal breakage/wear and tear). The Edge II case was for my Macbook Pro Unibody and works perfectly for my expectations. It's got solid and stiff corners and padding all around the edges to absorb shock from a fall.
They improved every aspect of the case that could have used improving from the previous Edge. The shoulder strap clasps are still metal, yet much less likely to snap open; they definitely require a thumb and forefinger to unhook this time around.
The single zipper pocket has been moved from inside the case to the outside -- much easier to access and has slightly more room. While they claim the pocket will fit an AC adapter, it will not fit (or just barely) the MBP adapter if you are using the long cord, and even then it feels like you are straining on the capacity. This is really my only complaint, but I also realize you are trading some of the bulk/capacity of the case for a sleek and slim briefcase-like design.
The side "stash a folder" pocket is still there and still handy for tossing in random papers as you might need to.
One of the marketing gimmicks attached to this case is that you do not need to pull the case out when going through airport security, but TSA hasn't gotten the memo. I've yet to make it through security without have to rescan the case. It's less hassle just to remove the computer from case the first time through.
You can position the laptop so you can open the case and use the laptop while still in the case, but it's a little awkward if you have anything in the front pocket or need to do this for prolonged periods. It's however very handy to zip open, do some quick note taking or web look-ups, and then zip it up again.
Lastly, the case really just feels well-crafted and excellently designed. Almost everyone who's taken a second look has commented "wow, nice case."

Only issue: the shoulder strap slips off the shoulder if you wear it on one shoulder only.

STM Bags Medium Alley Laptop Bag (Carbon) Review

(More customer reviews)I specifically wanted a vertical laptop bag with fewer pockets and lightweight carry. This bag fits the need perfectly and has a fine shoulder pad. Overall design is simple and utilitarian. The sections & pockets are fewer but very large and can carry almost anything. A negative is that after 3 months of daily use, the inside laptop section divider fabric stitching has started to break and separate through normal use. This also reveals the thin polyfoam construction of the internal divider. At best, this is okay and a compromise for weight and cost, but given all the other design & assembly compromises, I wonder if this will last a year or 2 without becoming an annoyance?

STM Bags Small Revolution Backpack, Fits Most 13" Screens, Carbon/Black Review

(More customer reviews)This bag is a great bag for the price. It has alot of space to put tons of stuff. I actually put 2 laptops and adapters in this bag already but the only reason that I put 4 stars is because its straps aren't strong enough to hold the weight of both.
But then again I have an Asus Republic of Gamers G53JW-XA1 and that's alot of weight to carry in almost any laptop bag. One other thing to note is that this bag enough to fit a 17 inch laptop. A regular 15 inch laptop fits and has alot of space at the top of the Laptop compartment whilst my Asus ROG G53JW-XA1 fits snuggly into the laptop compartment.
I personally fit my Asus, my Iomega 2TB external hard drive, a 500GB 2.5inch portable hard drive and alot of other stuff into this backpack.
The backpack "rain coat" is neatly hidden away at the bottom of the backpack in a velcro pocket. I don't use the cellphone holder or the 2 bottle holders, but the both seem good and sturdy.
In the main compartment there is a small pocket that I usually keep my Iomega and the portable hard drive. This pocket is located on the "door" for the hidden laptop compartment which is held by velcro. The front compartment is large and has space for alot of things and separate pockets for your pencils,pens and flash drives. There is also another pocket on the outer flap where you can keep other things, I usually keep my wallet there. And there is a small pocket at the front in which you can keep your iPod or other easily scratched electronics or items since it's made of soft material like microfibres.
All in all, I believe that this is a great laptop backpack except for the stitching on the straps which should have been done with stronger threads or catgut or something else that would allow you to support alot more weight such as two laptops which can easily fit in this backpack.
I'd easily recommend this backpack for anyone who is going to use it for the transport of any laptop, just ensure that you only put one in there, or be very careful when transporting more than one when wearing the backpack.
Also to note, backpack looks exactly as seen in images and delivery time was very short.

(More customer reviews)I really wanted to like this bag. I had my eye on it and decided to purchase after reading some rave reviews. When it arrived, I was excited for all the storage pockets, and the side-loading laptop compartment was terrific. Overall, it seemed a great design. Stitching was fantastic, and the thought put into arranging the angle of the zippers was evident. I packed up everything and went to our local coffee shop ready to get some work done. I set down the bag on the floor and -- thud.
Apparently, there's plenty of padding everywhere except where it really matters: at the base of the bag inside the laptop compartment. What suffices for protection here is a floppy little tube-like cushion sewed onto the base inside the laptop compartment. After some investigation, I discovered that this cushion flops side-to-side so much that when I put my laptop inside the compartment, ziped it up, and walked around for a bit to simulate normal use, the weight of the laptop pushes this cushion aside and rests against the bag shell itself. At this point, a few millimeters of nylon is all that protects your laptop from any surface on which you'd normally set down a bag.
Thankfully, I have a hardshell case on my laptop, so it was okay. However, for the bag, this glaring design oversight warranted an immediate return to Amazon.
