Skooba R101-141 Checkthrough Laptop Backpack (Black) Review

Skooba R101-141 Checkthrough Laptop Backpack (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Summary of the product:
Pros
- Keep your laptop in your backpack at all times while going through security
- Innovative design lets you pick the backpack after security and move on fast
- Pouches and other compartments let you stay organized
- Lightweight
Cons
- No strap for carrying the backpack on top of your carry-on (strap available on their briefcase version: Skooba R101-101 Checkthrough Checkpoint-Friendly Laptop Bag (Black))
- shoulder straps not quite as comfortable as other brands
I bought this backpack last December, after looking for a "checkpoint friendly" backpack for a while. I previously had a Brenthaven backpack for my MacBook Pro 15", but having to take it out every time I go through security was starting to be a pain (I travel a lot). One of the reasons that made me pick this one was their innovative design on how it opens so that you can take it through security. Most of the other checkpoint-friendly backpacks open from the top, so that you can't carry it while it's open. The Skooba backpack lets you pick it right after it has been scanned and continue with your travel. The other reason was that they seemed to have designed the compartments just for the traveler, with a special place to put your plane tickets and/or passport, a clear plastic bag that you can take out, etc.
After using it for a while I can say that the backpack works as advertised, with some caveats. You can pick the backpack right away after it has gone through the x-ray machine, but you'll probably want to close it before actually wearing it, since it can feel strange to have the backpack exterior bouncing. This might be because I actually carry a lot of things in the front, like books, power adapters, external hard drives, etc. so your mileage may vary. The briefcase version has a strap that you can use to attach it to you carry-on handle, but this one doesn't. I know some backpacks include this kind of strap, and sometimes you just want to roll your stuff around. Also, the straps don't feel as comfortable as my previous backpack. I can't really pinpoint what the problem is, but they just feel different.
Overall I like this backpack, and it has definitely saved me some time going through security. I've been using backpacks to carry my laptop for quite a while, so I didn't think about the briefcase version, but if I had to buy one again, I might give the briefcase version a chance.

Travelpro Executive First Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Briefcase in Black Review

Travelpro Executive First Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Briefcase in Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
My first Travelpro is a 3 year old 21 inch rollerbag, which has been on about 300 flights (including Europe and India) and still looks new. I bought this companion case because unlike cheap ballistic nylon, the material on Travelpro does not wear out. After two trips, I think this is the best professional briefcase for travel. There are plenty of zippered pockets so I do not have to worry about loosing my small electronic gear, pens, and so forth. I have used this as a portable office (computer, books and files) and as an overnight bag. For those that like to travel light and don't mind wearing the same slacks two days in a row, there is enough room in the center compartment for a clean shirt, tie, undergarments and toiletries. I have 2 stylish leather briefcases but this is the one I will use to get work done.

Mobile Edge ScanFast Onyx Checkpoint-Friendly Laptop Backpack (MESFOBP) Review

Mobile Edge ScanFast Onyx Checkpoint-Friendly Laptop Backpack (MESFOBP)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This backpack/laptop bag is awesome! Light weight and room for lots of stuff in addition to the laptop. It says that it fits a 15.4" laptop but my 16" widescreen fits without a problem, and I am sure a 17" widescreen would fit in it too. The bag itself is very lightweight so to carry it with a laptop isn't a chore! I wanted a bag for my laptop that not only carried the laptop and other stuff, but looked good too, and this one delivers the whole package. Also, the fact that it is a checkpoint friendly backpack, meaning you don't have to unpack your laptop at the airport checkpoints is really cool. Just unzip the bag, lay it flat and through the scanner it goes. Makes getting through the checkpoints with a laptop so much easier and faster.
I love this bag!!!!!

Targus Zip-Thru Air Traveler Case for 17-Inch Laptops TBT046US (Black) Review

Targus Zip-Thru Air Traveler Case for 17-Inch Laptops TBT046US (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I saw a review on a similar case by the same company just a different size on G4 and this carrying case has a great deal of functionality. There is plenty of room to carry lots of gear. The amount of gear I had in this thing I'll list below to give an idea.
17" Widescreen laptop
Laptop Battery charger
Sennheiser Headphones w/ Boommic
XB360 Wired game controller
Intuos4 Small Graphics Tablet w/ its accesories
32" CAT5 LAN Cable
Wired G5 Gaming Mouse
Anywhere from 10-20 CDs/DVD's in compartment
Thumbdrive
Samsung i8 Digital Cam pc hookup accessories
Cellphone + charger
This thing can hold quite a bit and maybe even a little more. It's very durable has a comfortable carrying strap as well as handles. The hidden pocket compartments are a decent size to slip in some small devices like cellphones and/or digi cams. The material is solid and the zippers are durable. There's really not a whole lot more you can say about a laptop case like this. If you're looking for something that can hold quite a bit of stuff then this is something to invest in.

Mobile Edge MESFBP ScanFast Backpack (Black) Review

Mobile Edge MESFBP ScanFast Backpack (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of the very few TSA approved Laptop bags that allow you pass airport security quickly. You just open a zipper and the bag flaps open with one part holding the Laptop only and the other part holding whatever you put in the other compartments. It's easy to handle and saves indeed some hassle at the airport.
The downside of this bag is its inefficinet space use. It's a very large backpack (16 x 2 x 11.5 inches) and reserves unnecessarily ample space (about 16 x 1.5 x 11.5 inches) for the Laptop compartment. You are not allowed, however, to put anything else there, so a lot of space is lost. That's a pity because MobileEdge could have designed the Laptop compartment much slimmer which would have left more space for books, paper etc.
I also miss a strap at each side that support the zipper when your backpack is really stuffed.

Traveler's Choice Rolling Computer Backpack Review

Traveler's Choice Rolling Computer Backpack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I would like to change my rating to 0 stars. ORIGINALLY I WROTE: I love this bag. It fits my huge laptop, plus 3 law books (about 1000 pages in hardcover each), and I can curve a couple softcover books to fit on top, or your lunch, AC adapter, etc. The fabric is thicker than I expected, which is great because the handle ripped off my last backpack and the zipper broke as well. This bag has lots of neat features...the straps store in a pouch on the back, and there is a vinyl-like cover you can pull out to cover the wheels so your clothes don't get dirty when you switch to carrying it on your back (although it does sort of resemble a black shower cap). When the handle is down, you can zip it closed, so it does not so obviously resemble a wheeled backpack. There is a small zippered compartment on top you can keep your cell phone or keys. The front pouch is deep from top to bottom, but does not expand much, so even though books would fit in it, they are too thick to actually zipper it closed. I keep my planner, wallet, and sometimes my AC adapter in it, but when the bag is stuffed, it's not really much additional space. Still, this is the greatest backpack I've ever had.

Case Logic 16-Inch Security-Friendly Laptop Backpack (CLBS-116) Review

Case Logic 16-Inch Security-Friendly Laptop Backpack (CLBS-116)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The only problem I have with this backpack is that it is a little dorky looking. Very plain looking, all black with matte silver zippers. Other then that, this is a great backpack!
As someone who lugs around a decent sized widescreen laptop, this is exactly the kind of laptop you would like to have. The rear portion of the backpack contains a padded area for you to store your laptop. Padded as to not damage the computer and to not cause you any discomfort also the lining of this pocket is soft as to not scratch any of the surfaces of your laptop.
The bag features a zipper that basically allows you to split the backpack in half and lay it down flat for scanning through the x-ray machine at airports. This of course is nice since you aren't pulling out your laptop and tossing it in one of those dirty gray bins and getting it scratched, etc..
The front half of the bag contains three other pockets, a smaller one on the front, a slightly larger one behind that which contains smaller pockets for pens, business cards and other small items, then you have one larger pocket which has room for things like power adapters, Cd's, etc..
A couple of other nice features:
The bag is designed to hold it's shape and stand up right when set down. The shoulder straps are padded and curved, making them very easy and comfortable to use. And a nice little touch the adjustable straps that normally dangle after you adjust them, these straps have nifty little Velcro pieces that allow you to roll them up and keep them from getting dirty when you have the bag on the ground or getting caught on stuff as you walk around.
Suffice to say, the bag may not be the coolest looking backpack out there, but you can tell that a lot of thought was put into it design, the designers remembered the little things that annoy you about backpacks that you wished you could fix. Glad I have it!

Siamod® Ceresola Checkpoint - Friendly 17" Detachable - Wheeled Laptop Case Review

Siamod® Ceresola Checkpoint - Friendly 17 Detachable - Wheeled Laptop Case
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After many years of using an old shoulder bag to carry my laptop and business papers, I decided to try a wheeled case. Researched many makes and models before choosing this. Very well made, roomy and holds my 17" laptop (though not in the pull out case). I like the feature of being able to remove the rolling base and love the many pockets and partitions. Besides, it looks so very professional in leather.

Skooba R101-151 Checkthrough Laptop Roller Case (Black) Review

Skooba R101-151 Checkthrough Laptop Roller Case (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I used to carry a regular laptop bag on my shoulder and a roller bag when I went on business trips. But most of my trips are 1-2 days so I would have a roller bag that was almost empty and a laptop bag to lug around. Good luck finding overhead bin space on overcrowded planes these days. I really wanted a bag that could carry my laptop, accessories and a change of clothes...and was small and light enough for everyday use. I was about to get the Wenger Patriot. That is a really nice quality bag...probably one of the best out there. But there were two reasons why I didn't buy it:
1) The Patriot bag is fat. It won't easily fit under an airline seat.
2) The Patriot bag is heavy. It would be great for trips since it has room for 2-3 days of clothes but not for everyday use.
I was getting really frustrated finding something that fit my requirements. Then I sat next to a guy on the plane that had one of these babies. It is slim enough to fit under your seat. It is just a bit more than half the weight of the Patriot--you can feel the difference when you pick it up. It has a sophisticated and minimalist design. Not too flashy and very professional--I'm not embarrassed to take it into executive briefings.
The TSA Checkthrough feature is awesome. It saves me time on security lines. I put my laptop and power cable in that compartment and it goes right through with no issues.
A couple of concerns. One is that the clothing compartment really only can hold one change of clothes. I don't think you can do a 2 or 3 day trip with this bag alone. Another concern is that there aren't a lot of pockets; just a laptop compartment, an accessories compartment and a clothes compartment. I carry a lot of accessories (portable hard drives, chargers, business cards, etc) so I thought that I couldn't fit them all in. But this design actually turned out to be a positive. I bought two sandwich size boxes (I think it is Rubbermaid) and filled them with all my accessories and put them in the storage compartment next to the clothes section. It fits perfectly and I'm much more organized this way.
Still, it would be nice to have an outside pocket to throw keys, receipts, gum, etc. There is a pocket in the back but it is so tight, I could barely fit my boarding passes in there. For that reason alone, I deducted one star.
In summary, this is the perfect bag if you do a lot of overnight trips and need to carry a laptop. If you do 2-3 night trips and don't mind carrying a bulkier bag, then the Wenger is probably a better choice. I figured that I would use this for overnight trips but I still have my laptop bag and my roller case for longer trips. So this is the bag for me. I would buy it again.

This a very nice case! I needed a 17" laptop case with several organizational features. I researched & shopped for 2 months before I decided to get this one, & I am soooo glad I did. I ordered mine in the brown, & it is a beautiful chestnut color. The wheels are a very, classy silver, & roll really smooth compared to previous wheeled cases I have owned. The various pockets, compartments & slots keep me from having to dig in the bottom looking for my cards, pens, etc. And a 17" laptop "does" fit nicely in this case. The design of removing the case from the wheeled cart is simple, fast & easy. The telescoping handle adjusts to a taller height then most (I'm only 5'1", so this is comfortable for me). Also, whether the case is empty or loaded, it will not tip over. The craftsmanship of this case is exceptionally sturdy.....i.e., heavier duty zippers, stronger seaming, quality construction, etc. There are alot more features.....too numerous to mention all. What else can I say, I love this laptop case!!

Briggs & Riley Verb Live Large Backpack Review

Briggs and Riley Verb Live Large Backpack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I love this top-quality bag from Briggs and Riley. The 'Large' version of their new Verb Live line swallows up my 15" laptop and will comfortably handle my pending 17" upgrade. Its attractive styling allows me to walk into any business meeting without looking like I've got a student backpack slung over my shoulder. And, I love the orange insides which give it a bit of fashion sense and its carrier a bit of dash.
I've had bags where I've simply not used over 50% of the pockets because they serve no useful process. Not here. Every pocket has proven functionality.
Moreover, the ergonomics of the bag are fantastic. I transferred all the items from my previous bag into the Verb Live and was convinced I must have somehow lost something in the transition. The Briggs & Riley felt like a much lighter load. It's due to the way the bag is perched on your back. Instead of dragging your shoulders back, the weight is expertly distributed throughout the length of the bag. It's an elegant technical achievement by the design team.

I had purchased this for Dennis, so I had him help me do the review. Here is a Video Review explaing every detail of this item. I hope it helps.
From what I seen, personally.. The item felt very sturdy, strong, and it was a nice size. It had a lovely laptop case that fit perfectly inside, also had tons of zippers in the front. He explains a lot in the video. He used the item a couple times. One time he flew with the item, when he went to Texas. The airport did ask him to take the laptop out of the slot, but he didn't have to open the bag that the laptop was in. You understand? (he explained this to me since I question him about these things, so I can review them)
