Update after extensive use: It breaks in. Pad stiffness is not a problem. Edge hardness is not a problem. It is more comfortable than my anti-slip Timbuk2 pad. A great value. I have left my original review intact in case other potential purchasers worry about the issues that initially troubled me. I upgraded from 4 stars to the 5 it deserves.
____________________________ original review:
Undeniably well constructed out of quality materials. Non slip.
But, over-built in a "bad" way: it is quite stiff, and won't easily conform to fit your shoulder, and the edges are so strong and stiff that they "bite" into my shoulder. If you are looking for a relatively slim looking accessory shoulder pad that will not slip off your shoulder, it is great, but for daily carry (a daily shoulder bag instead of occasional shoulder luggage for trips) I would recommend seeing one first in person before making a buying decision. My Eddie Bauer accessory strap is much more comfortable, but no longer made.
The Manhattan Portage label is sewn on, not embroidered, so it is easy to remove for use with a non-Manhattan Portage branded bag.
