(More customer reviews)I was excited when I received this rolling suitcase as a gift, because I had heard so much about the travelpro brand.
I noticed that it seems to have a nice selection of compartments, a solid "feel", etc. But I also was confused by some of the design elements. For example, the removable garment seems to zip in upside-down and it folds in thirds to a size much smaller than the width of the bag. This means that there is unusable air space on top of the main compartment on both sides of the garment bag when closed.
Unfortunately, on its first trip I went to check it at the United counter, and found that I could not retract the handle. After a minute or so of struggling with it (and making people wait), I finally was able to get it retracted.
I then went to put my coat into the outer compartment, and when I tried to zip it closed, the zipper blew apart. I was able to fix that fairly easily by zipping it from the other directly, but with I was seriously concerned about quality issues.
Later, when I collected it from baggage claim, I rolled it out to the rental car bus, and again I couldn't retract the handle, so I carried the bag onto the bus with the handle extended. While on the bus I messed with it, and was finally able to get it retracted. So, then I rolled it to my rental car, and this time I couldn't retract it at all. Fortunately, I was able to fit it (handle extended) into the back seat.
Now, at my hotel, I still have the handle extended, and I can't find a way to retract it. I called TravelPro this morning, and they said there's a hidden button inside that will allow me to retract the handle. I'll try that when I get back there tonight. They were apologetic and promised to get it fixed, but I guess I'm still very concerned about quality.
Hopefully, I just have a lemon and very soon I will regret writing such a negative review.
