High Sierra Summit 45 Frame Pack Review

High Sierra Summit 45 Frame Pack

I got the pack because it's cheap and looked like it would suit my purposes. When I got it the label says that it is for torso height of 15"-19" which is most women and medium built guys. This information is not on the website and it really should be. I went to a local store and got measured at 21" torso height and immediately sent the pack back. If you are within the 15"-19" torso height then I would recommend it saying that it looks like a good bargain.

High Sierra Classic Series 59401 Sentinel 65 Internal Frame Pack Review

High Sierra Classic Series 59401 Sentinel 65 Internal Frame Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I gave this pack its first run last weekend: a short weekender about 7 miles into the deep woods and foothills of South Carolina.
I found the pack to be excellent, especially considering the low price point. It is sufficiently roomy for a 3-season 2/3 day trip and has an excellent strapping system both for fit and compression.
The pack is fitted for larger framed persons; I'm 5' 7", 170 pounds, and found myself cinching up the straps almost to their absolute minimum, but they still functioned perfectly fine.
I also experienced the "Squeaking" problem, and to me it seemed to happen only when the load shifted its weight onto the point where the straps connect to the pack, and occured especially during lateral movement. This is hard to overcome during steep uphills, but keeping the load properly positioned on your hips will elimnate the squeak most of the time.
The attached rain-fly fits the pack very well even when heavily loaded and with an attached bedroll, and keeps it dry even in a heavy rain. The built in hydration ports are especially useful, as I was able to use my Camelback resivoir with the pack.
The long and the short of it is that if you are looking to make a smart buy, this is a quality pack that is smartly built that will not leave you with regrets.

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Medium Truist 55L Bag Review

Eagle Creek Travel Gear Medium Truist 55L Bag
Average Reviews:

This backpack is really well thought out and very flexible. The quality is outsdanding. In grey, it looks classy enough to serve as a travel bag. It is also probably one of the best deals around. One very minor complaint I have is that the pouch on top of the bag is hard to keep straight - it keeps sliding all over.

Specifically designed for the needs of a traveler--with security, convenience, and comfort features throughout--the Eagle Creek Truist 55L backpack is a terrific companion for longer trips and multi-activity adventures. The Truist 55L is equipped with the company's X-ACT Fixed Suspension system, which includes a removable X-frame made with HDPE frame sheet and pre-curved, aircraft-grade aluminum stays. As a result, the frame is sturdy yet supportive, especially when teamed with the ergonomically contoured shoulder straps, adjustable sternum strap, and pulley-assist hip belt. The X-ACT Fixed Suspension system is designed to fit a wide range of body types and to transfer the load evenly across the torso. In addition, the Truist 55L's 4,125-cubic-inch interior (when expanded) is easy to pack, with a full front panel, a hybrid zippered and drawstring top, and a zippered bottom compartment with an internal stowaway divider. Perhaps the handiest feature, however, is the included Modular Travel Pouch. Designed to fit comfortably on the lumbar, the front, or the back, the pouch detaches easily so you can carry your essential items on small day trips and leave the rest of your gear at the hostel. The pouch includes such additional features as an exterior bungee that functions as an in-transit laundry line, an audio portal, a fleece-lined electronics pocket, a zippered passport pocket, a key fob, and a pen slot.
Of course, security is also a concern while traveling, which is why the pack lets you secure all of the main entry points with a single lock. And should the weather turn nasty, the Truist 55L comes with a detachable rain-safe cover (the cover also provides security in crowded areas). Other details include a fast grab handle for hoisting the bag into overhead compartments, lash points for securing extra gear, exterior side pockets for storing quick-grab items, support for Eagle Creek's Pack-It organizing system, and a top expansion collar that provides extra capacity for last-minute packing.
Specifications:

I love this thing! I got it as a gift and now use it almost everyday! (I bike to work.) It's very comfortable, although I haven't had more than 10 pounds or so in it at a time. I've been using it for 4 months or so now and it still feels and looks brand new. Good pack at a good price!

High Sierra 29" Compass Travel Pack Review

High Sierra 29 Compass Travel Pack
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I purchased my High Sierra 29" Compass Travel Pack for a two week trip to Italy. My goal was to get the least expensive backpack I could find that was still of reasonable quality. I was confident it would be of good quality because I was able to examine another High Sierra bag that a friend of mine already had. I should say that I am no expert when it comes to backpacks and that there is a whole range of products that are significantly more expensive with which I have no experience. I was traveling in a large group, though, and was able to compare my bag to several other bags, including some from more prominent brands (North Face, Osprey).
The number one thing that made this bag stand out from the others in my travel group was that it opens like a suitcase - hinged on the side. This made it much easier for me to get at my gear than it was for my friends. All the other backpacks in my group had one opening at the top of the main compartment, which often meant that they had to unpack the whole bag to get what they were looking for.
Another nice feature, though not unique to this bag, was the smaller, detachable day pack. This provided a great way to keep all my valuables with me during the day while my main pack was at the hostel. It also came in handy on day trips as a way to hold the guide book, the bottles of wine I purchased, or the gear for the beach depending on the day. The day pack also had its own straps, which was different than another bag in my group which required swapping straps from the main bag to the day pack. The backpack also has clips built in to the shoulder straps of the main bag to allow the day pack to be carried in front, which was nice in crowded train stations known for pick pockets. This feature also allowed for the weight to be distributed a little more evenly than it would have been by attaching the day pack in the "normal" manner by zipping it onto the main pack.
The final feature that I think is notable is the attached panel that covers the shoulder and waist straps of the backpack. When you want to use the backpack the panel simply unzips and is stowed in a small compartment at the bottom of the bag. When it's time to check the bag at the airport you just pull the panel from its compartment and zip it up over the straps to protect them from whatever it is that destroys things in baggage handling. The bag also comes with a single shoulder strap that allows the bag to be carried like a traditional suitcase/attache case. Again, this isn't unique to this bag, but it's nice to have.
The one negative I experienced was that we were rained on pretty hard one day and some of the contents against the outer shell of the pack were somewhat damp afterward. This might have been because I had it pretty tightly packed, but it seemed to be a more pronounced problem in my bag than others in the group.
I just returned from my trip and this backpack was everything I needed and more. It held two weeks worth of clothes (with one load of laundry done halfway through) as well as an extra pair of shoes, a lightweight jacket, and a towel and flip flops for those hostel showers. The suitcase-like opening made it the envy of the eight others I was traveling with. It also held up very well, with no damage or tears in the straps or fabric of the bag after four flights, half a dozen trains and a handful of bus rides. I was very satisfied with this backpack and would certainly purchase it again if the need arose.
