This bag has a lot of good things going for it, including good wheels, lots of room on the inside, it's expandable without tipping over, has a water bottle carrier on the side, a top-access zipper for pulling out the computer without showing everybody what underwear you like, etc.
The problem is that it is far too wide to roll down the aisle on the plane -- you will have to pick it up and carry it to your seat. Not a problem if you fly first class, but when you get stuck with seat 32B, look out. It also is too wide to put under most airline seats in front of you. I bought this bag to be my overnight bag - big enough to hold my computer, electronics for on-plane amusement, a change of close, toiletries, reading material, etc. That it does very well. But I also want it to fit nicely under the seat in front of me so that I don't have to worry about overhead storage. Depending on the seat you get, you may have a very uncomfortable ride. I flew with a window seat on a 3x3 plane, and I had to shove the case in sideways, and half of it was still sticking out. There was no way it was going in there any farther. So I flew 4 hours with my feet up an extra foot, on top of the bag. On the way back I took an aisle seat, and with a bit of effort I was able to get the bag to fit in width-wise, although it was in there tight. Take out whatever you need for the flight before it takes off, because you won't be reaching in there for anything later.
So, the pros: great construction, well though out interior, wheels run smoothly.
And the cons: for those of your flying smaller planes, or who fly standby, be aware that this bag might not fit under your seat.
So overall I give it three stars, as it isn't as good for traveling as it could be. If they made this bag two inches narrower, it would easily be 5 stars. They make a similar bag with a 15" width, but it isn't quite as well laid out and fitting clothes in the bag is a tighter fit.
Update:
I am getting a lot of flak for this review, so let me qualify my remarks. This is a very well-constructed bag, with a lot of thought given to the inside spaces. I actually bought two bags, one for me and one for my wife. We actually bought them at the same time at a Dillard's, having spent about 20 minutes comparing various bags.
I travel a lot, mainly on regional jets, but also on larger jets. My wife works in an office and never flies for work. So we have different experiences with the bag. My wife would happily give this bag 5 stars, as she loves the expandability, construction and wheels. But she doesn't use it for travel. I do, so I have more opinions on the real-world utility of the bag for people who travel a lot.
It has been pointed out that this bag fits on many planes. I agree. I have had no problems on 747's and larger Airbus planes. So taking this coast to coast is great. But if you do more regional travel, on smaller planes like 737's and 727's, be aware that you will need to carry the bag to your seat, as the bag is just a bit too wide to roll down the aisle. If you also do a lot of standby flights, realize that this is one heck of a tight fit under most seats, so you will need to find space in the bin above your or gate check.
So depending on how you travel, and your expectations of a travel bag, you might have a 3 star or a 5 star experience.
