Heys USA ePac02 Laptop Backpack Review

(More customer reviews)For me, the best things about this backpack are 1) that it's really sturdy; 2) the separate laptop compartment; and 3) the color. I also like the handle on the top. I use it for grad school, and it definitely works fine, but there are a few things that I think should have been designed differently. I really like the fact that the laptop compartment is separate from the main compartment, unlike lots of other bags, so I can access my laptop (or iPad, which is usually what I use it for) without opening the main part of the bag. Also it's less obvious when I do open the main compartment that there's a laptop compartment at all, which I like since I go to school in a not-very-nice part of the city, and one never wants to flash one's valuables anyway. (Of course, the bag is labeled "ePac" on the front, which might clue someone in if they were familiar with the model name, or just guessed that the "e" means it's a laptop bag.) And I like how the bottom of the laptop area is thickly padded. But the opening of the laptop slot is a long, thin rectangular flap, which means that unless you are careful not to unzip it all the way to the bottom, you need two hands, or an extra moment of care, to zip it up again. I'd rather it were just a straight zipper so you can whiz it open, whiz it closed, bam. The compartment on the front, that I use for pens/pencils and stuff is plenty big heightwise, but as on every backpack there aren't enough individual pen/pencil holder slots, AND because that area is so tall, it means you have to unzip way down on the flap to get to your stuff. I'd rather just do a tiny zip open and my stuff's right there. I wish the mesh pockets on the sides were taller -- they work fine for a can of soda or a tiny fold-up umbrella, but are too short for a tall soda or a travel coffee mug or a mid-size folding umbrella. I also wish there were D-rings or something on the front of the shoulder straps, so I could attach my school ID, my train pass, and my watch the way I like. I haven't had to fill the bag super full with tons of books yet, but I think the main compartment is going to be a bit of a squeeze, and there's no expansion method. Which I guess comes with the territory since some space is taken up by the padding of the laptop compartment, but still. The inside of the compartment is a bright orange, which the company claims makes it easier to find your stuff, and yeah, it does make it easier to see small items in the bottom of the front compartments compared to a black lining. Overall, none of these issues is huge, and I would probably still buy it again, but for the money, I do wish it were more of a pleasure to use.

High Sierra Caldwell Backpack Review

(More customer reviews)I recently got this backpack for school. I've only used it a couple of times, but so far I really like it! If you are looking for a pack that feels supportive this is a winner. I carry a lot of books and do a lot of walking around campus. This backpack feels great on my back and I don't feel like I'm going to get a backache carrying all my stuff. Speaking of stuff, there is a lot room/pockets. There is a space cushioned to hold my laptop, a pocket to carry my ipod and headphones or even my glasses. There is a pocket that has a key fob, a PDA holder, pens, pencils, and other things. A pocket to hold a water bottle, and other pockets that I haven't quite decided what to put in them. The straps are great and there is even a pocket on one of them to hold my cell phone. The bag seems to be very durable. I'm satisfied with this product and the price I paid wasn't bad either.

(More customer reviews)My son needed a new backpack this year, and had one requirement: black. I showed him the picture on Amazon and he gave me an enthusiastic thumbs up. This is a great little backpack. It is big enough to hold school supplies (notebook, folder, lunchbox, library books and balled up sweatshirt), with a side pouch for a water bottle, and a little pocket on the strap that could be used to hold a small phone or iPod for an older child...yet this pack is compact and sleek enough not to be bulky on his 2nd grade frame. The straps are cut narrower without feeling flimsy, and padded. The middle compartment has pencil holders and small interior organizing pockets. His previous pack didn't last 4 months until I had to put patches in the bottom. So far, no big holes, but a the material is starting to wear thin in one spot. I wish the bottoms of these packs were reinforced, which is why I don't LOVE it. Kids are growing up so fast these days, and this pack is more grown-up looking without being too "adult" yet small and light enough for a younger child. My son absolutely loves it.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my son because he complained about to many books and not enought room last yr. Well this one sure fixed him up nicely. It is not to bulky or to wide but seems to fit him just right. He is 14 and he is about 5'2. It is not as waterproof as I'd like for it to be tho. He got into a downpour and some of his things got wet so that would be the only drawback with this pack.I asked him just now if there was anything he did not like about his pack and he said no he loved it. So there you have, hope it helps lol

(More customer reviews)I wish I'd examined the photo better before buying this item. The picture of the three guys on the bag is actually on the pencil case that is detachable with velcro from the backpack. So the only pocket on the backpack is the one large zippered pouch. We usually look for backpacks that have at least one smaller zippered pocket and would have appreciated two bottle holders instead of just the one mesh pouch on the side. It's really cheaply made but for the price, it'll probably be fine for the few months left until the end of the school year. Really doubt it would have held up for the entire year though.

(More customer reviews)The Access Day Pack by High Sierra is one of the best Back Pack/Day Packs I have ever owned. It is VERY roomy and has plenty enough space to store just about anything. I frequently travel with 2 laptops a sizable 3 ring binder, several hand held radios and at least one camera. This means that I not only need a lot of space I need a bag that will support the weight of the gear. After 3 years of continual use only a few stitches are coming loose on the shoulder straps.
The Access Day Pack, has been great! Although it is not waterproof, it comes with its own rain coat that covers the bag just in case you get caught in undesirable weather. I thought that was a cool feature!
I also an not a big fan of pre-sized pockets and pouches as they never fit my stuff. However the pockets in this bag are really good size and can hold most cellphones or 2-way radios.
The things I would change about the bag are:
1) The top MP3 style pocket. It is big enough to hold your iPod but if you put much else in it you run out of room quickly.
2) I would add another "water bottle" holder on the left side. These pockets are always useful and having a second one would only make this bag that much better.
3) I would add a rubberized waterproof bottom to the bag. If you set it down in a wet area for very long the water will soak through.

I used it on a recent trip and took it as my carry-on bag,I used it while hiking,as well as everyday for classes. It's lightweight and durable (so far!).
