(More customer reviews)I am a dedicated traveller, not a wheelie bag toting, shorts wearing, fanny-pack fool like the idiots crowding the airports these days.
This bag is like travelling used to be: a little rough around the edges, you have to work at it (no wheels here) but in the end it is a truly beautiful thing.
I love getting this bag out of the overhead. I love the looks of the Tumi crowd as they get their black bags out and line up in uniform boredom like the ants they are. This is something special, it is well crafted, clearly imperfect because of the hand crafting but not low in quality. But most of all it is unique, unlike those balistic nylon wheelies which are just like their owners: common.
Well made, beautiful to look at, big pocket on the outside is very practical, strong handles and smooth zipper work well, lining is atttractive and relatively easy to clean if you have a toothpaste escape. Plus it shows you only pack what you can carry, like a proper traveller.
Pack up, stand up, and get going, it is a big world and I love having luggage that reflects who I am.
Enjoy this beautiful bag and go out and show the sheepish ones how to do it right.

(More customer reviews)These Floto pieces are investments. The highest quality pieces. Buttery soft, THICK leather. Hand pieced, hand sewn with impeccable finish and fit. Seams that are smooth and perfect. The interiors are lined with fine striped canvas that after three years is still resisting dirt and stains from shoes etc. This Trastevere bag is the perfect weekender or full size vacation bag and looks gorgeous and stylish no matter where you are going. I have gotten so many compliments on the Floto pieces from hotel bellmen to conceirges to other travelers in the airport and hotels literally around the world!
With every use, the leather wears better, gets softer and is gaining that lovely old world patina that only high end, very well made luggage earns. These are indeed very expensive, but they have been worth every penny. I've been investing in a different piece purchased directly from Floto each year and have not been disappointed yet. Love the timeless Vecchio brown color (which is what all my own pieces are), but their deep red and gorgeous Navy Blue colors are classic and beautiful as well.

(More customer reviews)I have owned this bag - and traveled extensively - since 1997. The leather is soft and buttery and gets better all the time. I can organize and access all of my carry-on items very easily. The small front lower zip compartment holds my headphones and pens with my iPod, Blackberry and Cell in the pocket behind it. Meds, Jewelry, Makeup and Books fit nicely in the side pockets. The inside is roomy enough to hold magazines, a sweater, and purse. (One less thing to have to carry.) A zippered pocket on the outside of the top flap easily holds boarding passes and the like. The bag is lightweight and has a nice shoulder strap with a saddle so is easy to tote between gates. The whole thing squeezes easily under a seat or in the overhead bin. Whoever designed this bag knew what a traveler really wanted in a carry-on.

(More customer reviews)Back in the day I borrowed a "satchel" of this style from my grandparents when I travelled as a teen to Europe. We couldn't take much - but I had so much space in that smallish bag - so I've been eyeing another old-timey leather satchel to try.
It's still true. it's the it packs I believe. I've also grown weary of clunky wheelers in small overheads. I wanted a bit of a "nice" look in case I had to bring my luggage into just-off-the-jet restaurant meetings/dinners.
So far the quality of the leather is holding up well to travel.
Sometimes you can't beat a tried and true design I guess.

Am so glad that I decided to go with something as nice as this. The quality seems excellent. The leather is very high quality and attention to detail is wonderful. Package arrived from Italy surprisingly fast and in excellent condition. I am quite sure that my husband will love this and will be using it for years to come. One note: the lining is a solid chamois color rather than the stripe shown in the picture online.

Floto Luggage Piazza Messenger Bag Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this for my other half's birthday as he wanted a nice briefcase befitting his SVP role at his company. I researched the company and noticed that Amazon was selling the same bags for $100 less than the manufacturer. I did overnight delivery and had it gift wrapped. The amazon gift wrapping was quite nice (large blue velvet bag with a gold tie).
I didn't take the messenger bag/briefcase out of the bag when it came as I had to dash off to work and take it with me as we were having dinner tonight. During dessert I gave him the bag. He pulled out the messenger bag from the amazon gift wrapping. It was still wrapped in plastic, but despite the plastic cover, I could smell something rather bad across the table. A strong chemical stench. My other half said that the smell was from water proofing solutions that they'd used on the leather. It was so bad we had to quickly wrap it back up lest it interfere with other diners' meals. Mind you, we were sitting in one of the top 50 restaurants in all of NYC when this happened. I was mortified.
When we got home we took it back out to air it out. It was the first real chance I had to look at the quality. I've been to Florence and I've seen what real high quality Italian leather looks like. This isn't it. This is a very thick, heavy leather, and the pouches inside are a very rough, thick grained leather. It doesn't feel like a fine oiled leather. The coloration on the leather seems as though it's topical, as though it was painted on.
I told my other half I'd happily return the bag for him, but he is fine with keeping it. If it were a purchase for myself, I would have immediately returned it for something of higher quality. In my opinion from buying fine quality leather products in the past, this item isn't worth the $250 or so that I paid for it. Also, a company that makes leather products should have the sense to "air them out" before they're shipped off to a customer. I'm torn between 2 and 3 stars on this - I'm only upping this to 3 stars because my other half wasn't put off enough to ask me to return it.
