It is textured, which is nice, and easy to wipe off if you spill something on it (or have small kids around who might) However, DO NOT overstuff the wallet or the seam will split... I put too many coins and bills in it and part of the seam came out. Easily glued back into place, which is good because this is the best wallet EVER... but beware of that little design flaw (the weak seams)
