(More customer reviews)Overall, this is a very good backpack. The best one that I have ever had. Victorinox always makes good things and this won't dissapoint. There are so many Wenger backpacks around, but I'm for the original swiss army knife team.
Basic Features:
- The zippers are well made, although, like all zippers, they sometimes get caught on the fabric, but in my experience, never seriously.
- The mesh pockets are very strong and I can't imagine them breaking.
- The fabric is made of very strong nylon and comes in a variety of color schemes. Black on black, light brown on gray, green on gray, blue on gray, and red on gray. The inside fabric is a light grey and looks very nice.
- There are reflectors on the front and back logos, which helps cars see you if you are walking at night.
- Normaly, I don't like logos all over my products. However, I take pride in showing off a Victorinox logo (the red Swiss cross). On the front, there is a cool logo (it is hard to describe, see the picture), and a big VICTORINOX with the logo at the bottom. The zippers of the main compartment have the logo on it as well. On the backpack straps, there is a logo with VICTORINOX on the left with logos on the plastic parts of the adjusting straps. The only other logo is on the Swiss Army Knife pocket in the front compartment.
- Strong handle loop on top makes it easy to carry.
Main Compartment:
- The computer protective shell it made of a strong material. It isn't stiff, but it will more than protect your computer. The shell is 13 inches deep by 10 inches wide (and 2.5 inches thick), and it fits computers up to 15.4 inches (It may seem like the shell won't fit a wider computer [such as my Thinkpad {sorry for the parenthesis in the parenthesis}], but it does, and the velcro straps work well).
- Even with the computer, there is still a over a foot of width in the main compartment for books or clothes. The compartment is 18 inches deep by 13 inches wide. It is simple, with no fancy zippers or pockets on the inside cluttering it up.
Front Compartment:
- When the compartment is opened, the sleek mesh compartments and red zippers look very nice. There are three pen holders on the right where I put a pen, mechanical pencil and sharpie.
- Left of the pen holders is the cell phone pocket. It is 4.5 inches deep, 1.5 inches thick (coming out), and 2 - 3 inches wide. On the front of the Cell phone pocket is a specially made Swiss Army Knife pocket. If you are planning to put a swiss army knife in it, I dont think it could fit a large lock-blade knife, and not a champ. Try a medium sized one. I would go with the pocket pal or compact.
- On the left are the pockets. The first one is 7 inches deep by 7 inches wide, with no zipper. Built into the front are two mesh pockets, the top one zippered (a good place to keep money or spare change) and the bottom one not zippered. They are both 3 inches deep by 7 inches wide.
- Behind all of that is one large zippered pocket 7.5 inches deep by 11 inches wide.
- Lastly, there is a keychain hook on a strong 3 inch strap.
Side Pockets:
- On the right side is a large mesh pocket for a water bottle about 9 inches deep, 5 inches wide and comes 3 inches out, with an elastic rim streching it out 5 inches.
- On the left side is an expandable pocket 8 - 10 inches deep (the top is slanted), 5 inches wide and expands 4 inches at the most expandable point. I think it is a perfect place for computer cords.
Carrying and Straps:
- The Back of the backpack, while not particularly sturdy, has very comfrotable padding, which is also on the inside of the straps. The straps are curved to make it more ergonomic.
- On the right strap is a little pocket, which is the perfect size for a little tissue pack.
- The adjusting straps have ample room to make it tighter or looser. to make the straps looser, put it on and flip the plastic adjuster things up towards you (there are little tabs).
Overall Look:
- When in use, this backpack looks great and sleak. From the side view it slants down from the back immediatly, unlike normal ones which don't have a distinct shapes. I also like how the front orginizer pocket doesn't stick out from the main compartment, it is in one shape.
- Every color scheme looks great, and the sleek logo on the front makes it stand out.
Complaints:
- With a wider computer like mine, sometimes the velcro strap is a little hard to get over the computer.
- The front pocket can sometimes get a bit crowded and the zippers should open wider for more ease of use.
- This isn't only for this backpack, but when I put the second strap on, it twists.
Conclusion:
- It deserves the normal Victorinox rating: 10 stars out of 5. It is very well designed and built. The main compartment is very spacious, the carrying is great, and it looks awsome. If you are looking for a backpack for work, school, or travel, this is the one. Also, check out some of the other backpacks in the Victorinox Altmont collection, and while you're at it, check out their other products (I'm not a Victorinox salesman, just a really satisfied customer who couldn't find one comprehensive review of this product).
