(More customer reviews)I bought this bag from a local military surplus store, and I think it's fantastic. Well worth the money I spent for it, but I have three problems with it, and should let you know about them.
Problems:
1. No padding. You'll need a separate protective slip for your laptop, if you're carrying one.
2. The shoulder strap. I'm short, only 5 foot Seven, but the strap isn't all that long, it will come down to the top of the bag at my hip, if extended all the way. If you're a tall person, you'll probably want a longer strap, or else this will rub against your ribs.
3. The velcro straps on the flap. Why not buttons like the little pockets inside? Or buckles, like other military-style bags?
Otherwise, the Messenger bag is fantastic. The metal gives it a little bit of personality, as does the sturdy canvas construction, 5 months so far, and no rips, so it lives up to Rothco's reputation
And for those of you who are like me, and don't have a chance to see how big it really is before you buy it, here's what I've fit in there:
2 "portfolios" (the kind that hold loose papers, not an artist's portfolio!)
3 Spiral notebooks
2 Standard paperbacks, or one thick paperback (Think Ulysses)
1 thick dayplanner
3 Energy bars (in the little pocket)
1 14.1" Laptop plus its charger (Charger goes in the other pocket)
And of course, there's the ruler. Metric and standard. Pretty good for a twenty dollar bag!
