(More customer reviews)I commute into New York City every day and I also spend a lot of time traveling to other cities via plane and train, So a well designed functional laptop bag is very important to me. I bought this bag to replace my Kelty Jetway (The Mac Truck of bags!). I decided that I didn't need the wheels any more, too much work to pull a wheeled bag through the streets of New York. (Especially in the snow and rain)Although the Kelty was bigger Than the McKlein R Series, everything I normally carry fits nicely inside. It also forces me not to take my entire office home with me. It's just not good for the back! Keep in mind the McKlein 53075 also comes in at half the weight - added value!. Every pounds helps in 90 degree weather! Another good feature is the Ballistic nylon is also stronger and lighter than the leather backpacks.
This bag looks classier and cleaner looking than the trendy SwissGear bags you see everywhere.
I actually like the side entry point for the laptop, it makes taking the laptop out in transit very easy. The padded laptop carrier is an added bonus, more protection + it also has additional pockets for business cards as well as DVD's, air card and thumb drives. My HP laptop (13"x10") has ample room in the carrier.
The side also has a multimedia pocket, great for an iPod, Garmin GPS, Digital cameras and other gadgets you may need on the road. It has an earphone pass through but I'm not a big fan of crossing NYC streets with ear-buds it. The cabbies will take you out like it's Death Race 2000 !!! (old Sly Stallone movie).
Back to the functional features: The ubiquitous water bottle pouch on the opposite side is perfect for a 24oz. Camelback water bottle. The front-most pocket is great for plane ticket, train schedules. It's also padded so you can stow other important items like your Barnes & Noble Nook in here. The next section houses the rest of your goodies, I have two pair of glasses, keys, pens, markers and a nifty mesh pocket for Ethernet cables, granola bars (a must for long flights) or what ever you snack on... The middle section houses enough room for legal folders, magazines and I keep a small zippered bag (not included) that I use to keep the power supply, phone chargers and other cables.
The last but one of the most important features is how the straps sit on your shoulders. They are comparable to high end long weekender type backpacks. They fit comfortably across the chest area and are fully adjustable for your size. This helps distribute the weight evenly across your back. Overall this is the perfect professional grade commuter laptop bag. Students would dig this bag too!
