(More customer reviews)I took the bag on it's first test run. In general, it's a very nice bag, but it has its drawbacks.
Pros:
-It is very stylish. It looks as good as the pictures. A nice alternative to the cookie cutter bags that everyone under the sun is rolling around.
-The quality of the material and the construction seems very good. That is based on one trip, and time will tell as to how well it holds up. My old Eagle Creek bag has been through the mill and is indestructable. We'll see what happens with the Sherpani.
-It is very spacious. It holds more than one might think.
-The interior is well designed, with built in compartments that are very useful. And there is room to keep clean laundry from the used stuff. There is a separate zipped compartment that holds the things you might want to use while waiting for a flight, like books, news papers and such.
-The wheels are fantastic.
-The top handle is fantastic.
Cons:
-The velcro loop that holds the two parts of the duffle handle together is not ready for prime time. It's not long enough or robust enough to secure both straps, and it keeps opening. This is extremely annoying, but easily dealt with. For the next trip I'll get a longer piece of velcro or something like that. But they really need to change that.
-The bag is easily tipped over when it's loaded and standing up right. You barely have to touch it. It is a pain to have the bag constantly tipping over.
-It could really use an open exterior compartment to hold travel documents or a newspaper. And another compartment to hold a water bottle, a net maybe. Other bags that have these features are very tempting.
So-So:
-It would be nice to be able to carry this as a backpack.
Unknown:
-How well it holds up over time.
-How easy it is to clean the inevitable stains.
Bottom line:
I'm glad I bought it. Right now, I would buy it again. I'd recommend it to a friend, and point out the drawbacks. The velcro loop and tippy-ness do detract from its usefulness enough so that it rates a three. If these problems weren't fixed, given the lack of outside compartments for travel docs/newspapers and a water bottle, I'd rate it a four.
