I'd hoped that this would be my next great love. Sadly, it's not to be. My last roller computer bag died a horrible death at my hands during a trip to germany, so I really needed a good sturdy, useable case for my computers. My last one had a shoulder strap, carrying straps, and extendable handle for rolling. I could attach it easily to my other suitcase to move through the airport.
I am a road warrior and my office is in my computer bag. I carry my black binder, scanner, one or two computers (15"/17"), iPhone stuff, 3 additional external drives, enough cables to choke a horse (& stop me at TSA checkpoints almost every time...). A book or two for reference, power cords, a digital SLR camera and lenses, and a bunch of USB attachments - hub, thumb drive...
So, the bag, any bag, is pretty full.
Upside: It's pretty, rolls well, has a lot of room.
Downside: The dividers aren't attached to the bottom of the case so things "migrate". There's no place for cables and small stuff. If you put them in the case, they don't stay put. Yes, I know, it comes with a detachable zipper bag and brief case style card/pen, misc pockets on one of the dividers. But, try fitting a half dozen cables, network cables, and thumb drives in it. Not happening. I finally took the soft computer case that comes with it and stuffed all the cables in it. That works ok.
My pet peeve is that you have to completely unzip the case to get to anything. So imagine this: Case in the overhead rack on a plane. I want my computer. Open the rack, take the bag out, put it down, unzip it completely, take computer out, zip it up, put it back in the rack, close the rack.
With my old zippered bag - open the rack, open the zipper, pull out computer, close zipper, close rack.
No "lifting hooks" so I can't easily attach this bag to another suitcase. No shoulder strap. The handle is for decoration, you can't really carry it very far using it.
I don't know just what I expected. I could see that it was a hardshell and would have to be unzipped, but nothing registered until I actually used it. It's simply a pain to use.
This is definitely a computer suitcase: You pack it when you leave, and unpack it when you get there. If that's what you are looking for, this is probably one of the best around.
But, if you travel and need frequent access to your computer bag, use it as your virtual office, and don't want all your wares displayed to the world, you probably want to pass on this.
Too bad, I love Hayes products. All my suitcases for the last couple years have been Hayes. I'd really hoped that they'd come up with a companion eCase that would work.
