(More customer reviews)I have been searching for a separate bag to carry for a class i have in the evening instead of hauling my monster one back to campus again. I was slightly hesitant to buy this w/o any reviews. But found this to be a great purchase and decided to create a review for anyone else that my be one the fence about this one.
I bought this bag in the std. black w/ silver(read reflective) stripes. The color matches fairly true to what is shown in the pictures on here. The flap and top of the shoulder pad are made from the same soft feeling rubber material. As for the claim of being waterproof, this only applies to the flap and not to the nylon parts of the bag (back and sides). They maybe water resistant but don't plan setting it in a puddle(snow ok)!
Build quality of the bag is good/great and about what I expected from Columbia. Interior dimensions from what I measured are 11"(d)x 17"(w)x 4"(t) without bulging the bag out(It holds my HP Envy 14, two notebooks and a Moleskine perfect.). The little mesh pocket on the inside is nice but not essential for anything I find myself doing. There is also a zippered compartment on the front side of the bag though, that is quite convenient for storing small items(see posted picture for notes). The bag does not taper at all towards the bottom like some do. The handle on top is also nice as many messenger bags do not provide this.
I must admit some fault on this bag though, if only minor:
-The shoulder pad is good. But not great.
-The strap is stitched to the bag, instead of having swivels. So if you aren't paying attention you will have five twists in it before you know it.
Beyond that this bag is fantastic. It handles it's evening class job superbly and have no problem throwing my stamp of approval on it!
